Some of you have asked me what a typical day is like in China. Well i will give you an average day. I probably get up around 9:00 am. My alarm will go off with a cartoon tune in English "Good Morning"
I will then enjoy eating my hard fought to find cereal. It is like Vector cereal. I will also enjoy my orange juice. I may even drink powdered Nestle cafe coffee. Then i organize my books and go to class. It is a 10 minute walk, most of people stare at me while i walk. My face is white and my hair is not black. I arrive at the office and photo copy what i will teach to the middle school students. Class will last for an hour then i usually get a big break, split shift then i go to resturant to eat lunch. I usually eat vegetables with rice, meat and noodles. I don't know what else to drink so i usually have a Sprite. They even have nice Korean resturants here.
I don't know why but i would feel tired at this point and go home to have a nap. It is probably because i sweat a lot and lose my fluids because it is so hot. But this should improve with a new scheldule and my new gym memberhip. I then would teach in the afternoon for an hour.
Once i finish, that i would go home and check my e-mail. Then i would go out with mabe a friend and have dinner. I may be out until 9:00 pm. I would then come home and mabe check my e-mail again and then have a shower before bed. For some reason i don't get to sleep until midnight. This happens to a lot of teachers, you just sometimes can't stop thinking about how exciting China really is. Plus the beds are harder than ours. It is a pretty simple basic scheldule i have. But to tell you the truth working 20 hours feels like 40 a lot of the time. Because Thursday, Friday and all day Sunday i have to travel a ways to get to class. Then i have to prepare a lot for my classes. Sunday is the most biggest day from 6 am to 6 pm. I usually get some surprise phone calls while i am resting to mabe teach another class on very short notice. This happens once in a while.
What are my struggles? The heat is main factor here. It has really throwen me off. Sometimes my stomach hurts from the different food that i am not use too. It is also fustrating trying to communicate in my 20 word chinese vocabulary. When i need something sometimes i just can't find it and you feel lost trying to find things. Cereal for one, shorts for another. Another thing is this blog. I really cannot see my whole blog from the computers here. All i do is put in. You can see my photos so that is the main thing. It has taken absolute hours on my little break here to try and figure out how to upload these photos with this program.
Monday is a nice day, the maids come in the afternoon to clean. Tuesday is my day off. Wednesday and Thursday are a bit heavier of days. Friday and Sunday are the biggest. Saturday is ok, but working split shifts kind of throws off your plans for the day.
This is the basic day that i have. Morning classes will stop soon and so wil some ofl the split shifts, so i should be feeeling a lot better.
Enjoy my two recent updates and my new photos! More student photos to come as i have scanned them on a disc.
